TIKA Agriculture and Livestock Project at Bhasanchar
ACLAB is implementing the livelihood project “Animal Husbandry & Agriculture Bilateral Program in Bhasanchar Rohingya Camps” supported by the “Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency-TIKA” with the engagements of the FDMN community since January 2023.
The project goal is to ensure sustainable livelihood and create income-generation opportunities through agriculture, vegetable farming and livestock. The project objective is to create food and nutrition security and provide life skill education for better livelihood. Till now 10,000 FDMN benefited through cash per work in Cow farms and vegetable gardens, and 5000 have received fresh and organic vegetables and milk. 800 volunteers have achieved portable agricultural skills which can be useful now and in their home countries if they eventually return.
Sustainable income generation has been created for 2500 FDMN. 1500 FDMN families have directly benefited from fish cultivation. The project is helping to reduce tensions and frustrations among FDMN which is contributing to their overall well-being and mental health. Agricultural practices are helping to protect the environment, reducing the impact on the ecosystem and promoting sustainability.
Now the farm has 30 cows and other animals. Since its inception, 175 liters of milk have been produced and distributed among project HHs. The project has produced around 1000kg of vegetables which was distributed among beneficiaries and sold in the local market. The earned money was reinvested in the project for the seeds, fertilizer, fencing, cow feed, volunteer payment etc.
