Community Radio Naf 99.2fm program
Radio Naf 99.2fm has been operating at Teknaf coastal Upazila in Cox’s Bazar district since 2012 with the permission of the Ministry of Information, Government of Bangladesh. It aims to ensure empowerment of the marginalized and underprivileged coastal people and right to information for the rural community. Over 60% (300000) population of the area has access to Radio Program, turning to lead a better & meaningful life through news, information, diversified programs and entertainment. It has become the instrument for the livelihood battle of the rural people simply because of providing day to day information to the community people. It has been playing invaluable role in the development process focusing on various critical issues in line with the national goals of the country and SDG covering population control, poverty alleviation, health & nutrition, water and sanitation, agriculture, education, culture, entertainment, sports, fishery, Bio-diversity & Environment & climate change adaptation, capacity building, rehabilitation, Humanitarian response, disaster management, women & child trafficking, MSM, Hijra, IDUS, and Sex workers, legal aid & good governance. Ethnic Minority & Human Rights, Peace, Harmony and Resilience, Observance of International & National Days, ethnic group development, early marriage. Radio Naf has been broadcasting On-air Radio Magazine, Life discussions, Question-Answer sessions, Experts’ Interview on important issues and also organize Community Off-air programs with the support of the Government and development partners. It is a voice from the Grassroots towards attaining Community Development through accessing Right to Information. UNICEF, UNDP, BBC Media Action, Christian Aid, WFP, John Hopkins University Center for Communication Program, Bangladesh Betar etc. are providing financial and technical support to the programs.
The program is implemented with the active participation of the local people and coordination with local administration; local Govt.; social and political leaders. At present, Radio Naf has 10 staff members and 19 volunteers and during the reporting year it broadcasted a total of 3240 programs of which 1800 and 1440 are On-Air and Off-Air programs respectively, which covered and devoted on 25 issues/topics on various social and development aspects and participated by 435 and 300 participants from the Listener Group Members respectively from the host community and Rohingyas. In order to encourage radio listening habit, a number of 550 radio sets have been distributed among the listeners, host community and among Rohingyas
